I recently had the pleasure of taking the Coastal Pacific train from Christchurch up the East Coast of the South Island of New Zealand to Blenheim. The journey is along ruggedly beautiful coastline, between the Pacific Ocean and the steeply rising Kaikoura Ranges.

You start by travelling through picturesque wine growing regions, and the rich farming landscape of the Canterbury Plains. Along the way you pass though the town of Kaikoura, where you can break your journey to take a whale watching tour or swim with dolphins.

During March I was in Port Douglas and keen to visit the oldest rainforest in the world, the Daintree Rainforest.

I set off in the morning from Port Douglas and drove the spectacular coastal road to the Daintree river Ferry Crossing. You drive your car onto a barge to cross the river which is great fun, then you drive through the amazing views on to Cooper Creek wilderness. The landscape is outstanding, and there were so many large and bright blue butterflies.

I have just returned from the most amazing adventure in Papua New Guinea. I enjoyed 11 days of exploring this stunning country - the land, culture, bird watching, fantastic diving and snorkeling, all while cruising on the expedition ship Oceanic Discoverer.
